Abu Dhabi, September 02 (QNA) - The United Arab Emirates has repudiated the Iranian attack on the Saudi tanker Sidr as it was traversing the Strait of Hormuz, killing two members of its crew.
In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stressed that this action gravely endangers the safety and security of international navigation, a perilous escalation that threatens to undermine the security and stability of one of the most consequential waterways in the world.
The UAE expressed full solidarity with Saudi Arabia, reemphasizing that it supports all measures that would protect the security and safety of its vessels and national interests and ensure freedom of traffic in regional and international waters.
The Ministry contended that this assault is flagrantly at variance with Security Council Resolution 2817, which stressed the importance of protecting freedom of navigation and repudiating attacks on commercial vessels or disrupting international maritime lanes.
It asserted that targeting commercial navigation or weaponizing the Strait of Hormuz as a tool for economic extortion is an unacceptable act that poses a direct threat to the stability of the region, global energy security, and the safety of international commercial traffic. (QNA)
