Berlin, September 20 (QNA) - Borussia Dortmund moved clear at the top of the Bundesliga with a 1-0 victory at VfB Stuttgart on Saturday in the fourth round of the German league season.

Maximilian Beier scored the only goal in the 70th minute, converting a cross from Jobe Bellingham to give Dortmund all three points.

The victory was Dortmund’s fourth in four league matches this season, leaving the club with a perfect 12 points at the top of the table, two points ahead of Freiburg and defending champions Bayern Munich. Stuttgart suffered their third defeat against one victory and remained on three points in 14th place.

Dortmund had struggled against Stuttgart in recent seasons, losing five consecutive league and cup meetings before winning twice and drawing once in their previous three encounters.

In another match, Freiburg twice came from behind to draw 2-2 at Eintracht Frankfurt.

Younes Ebnoutalib put Frankfurt ahead in the 10th minute, before Derry Scherhant equalized for Freiburg in the 34th. Jonathan Burkardt restored Frankfurt’s lead two minutes later, but Yuito Suzuki leveled for Freiburg in the 48th minute.

The draw moved Freiburg to 10 points in third place, while Frankfurt rose to five points in ninth. Freiburg’s winning streak ended at three matches in all competitions, but the club remained unbeaten after seven matches across all competitions this season.

Elsewhere, Mainz 05 beat Borussia Monchengladbach 4-3 away to move to seven points, while Monchengladbach remained bottom without a point. Hamburg beat visiting Cologne 2-1, and Werder Bremen came from two goals down to beat Augsburg 3-2.

The fourth round concludes Sunday with three matches: Bayer Leverkusen against RB Leipzig, Schalke against Elversberg, and Paderborn against Hoffenheim. (QNA)
