GCC Games Doha 2026: Qatar's Ali Al Obaidli Advances to 15-Red Snooker Semifinals
Doha, May 17 (QNA) - Qatar's Ali Al Obaidli advanced to the semifinals of the 15-red individual snooker competition at the 4th GCC Games in Doha, keeping his campaign for a fourth tournament medal on track.
Al Obaidli secured his spot in the final four with a three-to-one quarterfinal victory over the United Arab Emirates' Mohamed Shehab in a match lasting nearly two hours.
The Qatari player established an early two-frame advantage before a tactical error in the third frame allowed Shehab to reduce the deficit; however, Al Obaidli recovered to dominate the fourth frame and seal the match.
His progression gives him the opportunity to add to his current tournament haul, which already features a gold medal in the 10-ball billiards doubles, a silver in the 10-ball billiards singles, and a silver in the 6-red snooker singles.
Al Obaidli, who initially topped Group One with victories over Oman's Qasim Al Balooshi and Kuwait's Ammar Taqi, will face Kuwait's Ahmad Abul in the semifinals following Abul's three-to-one victory over the UAE's Khalid Kamali.
The second semifinal fixture features an all-Saudi clash between Ziad Al Qabbani and Abdullah Al Shammari. Al Qabbani reached the penultimate stage by defeating Qatar's Ahmed Saif in a straight-frame quarterfinal sweep, while Al Shammari advanced after a closely contested three-to-two win against Kuwait's Ammar Taqi.
Saif had previously advanced to the knockout stage as the runner-up of Group Three following a win over Bahrain's Hisham Al-Saqr and a preliminary loss to Al Qabbani.
The 15-red individual snooker tournament at the Qatar Billiards and Snooker Federation Hall features a field of 12 players divided into four round-robin groups, with the top two competitors from each group qualifying for the knockout rounds. (QNA)
