Education Ministry Celebrates Conclusion of Reading Olympiad, Arab Reading Challenge
Doha, May 17 (QNA) - The Ministry of Education and Higher Education, represented by the Curriculum and Learning Resources Department, on Sunday celebrated the conclusion of the 7th edition of the Reading Olympiad and the 10th season of the Arab Reading Challenge.
During the ceremony, the results of both competitions were announced, with HE Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education Dr. Ibrahim bin Saleh Al Nuaimi, honoring 600 students who had reached the final stage.
In her remarks, Assistant Undersecretary for Educational Affairs, Maha Zayed Al Ruwaili, emphasized the importance of reading in shaping students' personalities and fostering the progress of societies and nations. She noted that a nation that reads gains knowledge, learns how to think, discern, and view the world with a broader perspective.
Al Ruwaili also praised the Arab Reading Challenge for instilling a love of reading in millions of students across the Arab world, strengthening generations' connection to the Arabic language, knowledge, and critical thought.
This year, approximately 200,000 students participated in the Reading Olympiad and Arab Reading Challenge, with about 2,000 advancing through regional qualifiers and 600 reaching the finals.
The ceremony included a visual presentation showcasing the students' journey with reading and highlighting the role of school libraries in shaping their intellectual development.
The Reading Olympiad aims to raise reading proficiency and develop students' ability to express their understanding of texts in diverse ways while applying information to meet their needs. The Arab Reading Challenge focuses on fostering analytical and critical thinking skills and promoting tolerance and intellectual and cultural openness among students. (QNA)
