GCC Games Doha 2026: Qatar Tops Athletics Standings With 34-Medal Haul
Doha, May 18 (QNA) - Qatar's athletics squad clinched first place overall at the 4th GCC Games after the track and field competitions concluded at the Suhaim bin Hamad Stadium.
Over four days of intense field and track events, the host nation accumulated a tournament-high 34 medals, comprising 12 gold, 13 silver, and 9 bronze medals. Qatar cemented its top spot on the final day by capturing nine additional podium finishes, which included two gold, four silver, and three bronze medals.
Mubarak Saeed secured gold in the men's 1500-meter race, while the men's 4x400-meter relay team claimed the second gold of the final session.
Silver medals were earned by Zakaria Ibrahim in the 1500-meter race, Moaaz Ibrahim in the discus throw, Alaa Abdelmonem in the women's high jump, and the women's 4x400-meter relay team.
Meanwhile, Dana Salem secured a bronze medal in the women's 200-meter sprint, alongside third-place finishes from Salma Ahmed in the high jump and Mohammed Mohammed in the discus throw.
This comprehensive performance placed Qatar at the summit of the final six-nation standings. Bahrain finished in second place with 23 medals (12 gold, 8 silver, and 3 bronze), followed by Oman in third with 11 medals (7 gold, 2 silver, and 2 bronze). Saudi Arabia occupied fourth place with a total of 14 medals (5 gold, 5 silver, and 4 bronze), while Kuwait finished fifth with 16 medals (4 gold, 7 silver, and 5 bronze). The United Arab Emirates rounded out the standings in sixth place with a total of 15 medals, comprising 2 gold, 4 silver, and 9 bronze medals. (QNA)
