GCC Games Doha 2026: Qatar Finishes Table Tennis Campaign with One Gold, Two Silvers
Doha, May 17 (QNA) - The table tennis competitions at the 4th GCC Games in Doha concluded with the Qatari national team securing one gold and two silver medals on the final day of play.
In the women's singles final, Qatar's Aya Mohamed captured the gold medal after defeating her teammate Maryam Ali, who took the silver, in a three-to-one match.
In the men's doubles category, the Qatari duo of Mohamed Abdulwahab and Abdullah Abdulwahab earned the silver medal following a straight-sets loss to Saudi Arabia's Ali Al Khadrawi and Abdulaziz Boushlaibi.
These final-day podium finishes followed earlier successes for Qatar, including a gold medal in the mixed doubles by Mohamed Abdulwahab and Aya Mohamed, a mixed doubles bronze by Abdullah Abdulwahab and Maryam Ali, and a bronze medal in the men's team event.
The host nation finished the table tennis tournament with an overall tally of six medals, consisting of two gold, two silver, and two bronze medals.
Following the matches, the winners were crowned by prominent regional sports officials, including Hamad Ahmed Al Hammadi, President of the Qatar Table Tennis Federation, and Prince Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Nasser Al Saud, President of the Saudi Table Tennis Federation.
Hamad Ahmed Al Hammadi, President of the Qatar Table Tennis Federation, expressed great satisfaction with both the technical and organizational success of the tournament, stating to the Qatar News Agency (QNA) that the event showcased Qatar's established capability in hosting premier regional and international sporting events.
Al Hammadi noted that the national team's six-medal haul was the direct result of continuous efforts by the federation’s technical and administrative staff, combined with the high competitive spirit displayed by the players against the region's top athletes.
He congratulated the young athletes for their honorable performances and explained that the intense, evenly matched competition across all participating Gulf teams underscored the significance of Qatar's achievements.
Looking ahead, Al Hammadi affirmed that these positive results would serve as a strong incentive for future development.
He concluded that the federation would thoroughly analyze the team's performance at the GCC Games to reinforce technical strengths and address errors ahead of upcoming international commitments, most notably the West Asian Championships scheduled for August. (QNA)
