Israeli Strikes Intensify in Southern Lebanon Despite Extended Truce
Beirut, May 15 (QNA) - Israeli air and artillery strikes have continued across southern Lebanon despite a ceasefire agreement that was extended last month, according to Lebanese state media.
Lebanon's National News Agency reported that Israeli warplanes targeted the Al Hamadiya area near the coastal city of Tyre, while further air strikes hit the Al Maashouq district close to residential neighborhoods on the city's outskirts.
An Israeli drone later struck the same residential area again, the report said.
Elsewhere, Israeli artillery shelled the towns of Kounine, Braasheet and Beit Yahoun in the Bint Jbeil district, while drone strikes targeted the town of Shhour and a motorcycle in the town of Majadel, both in the Tyre region.
Earlier in the day, Israeli fighter jets reportedly launched raids on the Marj Al Safa area in Choukine and on Nabatieh Al Fawqa. Lebanese media said the strikes destroyed part of a neighborhood containing the municipality building and several residential structures.
The attacks coincided with heavy artillery bombardment around an orphanage in Mifdoun and the outskirts of Nabatieh Al Fawqa.
The latest escalation comes despite a truce that came into effect on April 16 for an initial 10-day period before being extended on April 24 for a further three weeks.
Lebanon's Health Ministry said at least 2,896 people have been killed and 8,824 injured since the conflict intensified on March 2. (QNA)
