Gaza, May 15 (QNA) - Palestinian medical sources announced that the death toll from the intense Israeli airstrikes targeting Gaza City on Friday has risen to seven, in addition to dozens of injuries.

Sources at Al-Shifa Medical Complex told QNA correspondent that the number of people transported to hospitals in Gaza City by medical and ambulance teams has reached seven, including women and children, and approximately 45 injured, some critically.

In the same context, spokesman for the Civil Defense in Gaza, Mahmoud Basal told QNA that Civil Defense teams were facing difficulty in controlling the fire that broke out in the residential building targeted by the Israeli airstrikes. He noted that the bombing caused massive destruction to the targeted building, which contains dozens of apartments and houses hundreds of families.

The resulting fire consumed a number of apartments, and the bombing caused extensive damage to the building.

Israeli warplanes launched several airstrikes this evening targeting an apartment building in the Al-Mu'taz neighborhood of Gaza City, resulting in fatalities and injuries.

This was followed by a drone strike on a civilian vehicle on Al-Wahda Street in Gaza City, which also resulted in fatalities and injuries.

Following these attacks, the Israeli occupation authorities, in a joint statement by their Prime Minister and Minister of Defense, announced that the target of the airstrikes was Izz al-Din al-Haddad, the commander-in-chief of the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of Hamas. However, no Palestinian faction has yet confirmed or denied the Israeli announcement. (QNA)
