Google Unveils AI-Powered Accessibility Features for Visually Impaired Users
Washington, May 16 (QNA) - Google has unveiled a suite of AI-powered accessibility enhancements across Android and Chrome platforms, aiming to significantly improve digital experiences for users who are blind or have low vision.
A key update is the deeper integration of Google’s Gemini AI with Android’s TalkBack screen reader. This enhancement allows users to receive AI-generated image descriptions and engage in follow-up questions about image content, such as identifying objects or colors in photos.
Additionally, Google has introduced Expressive Captions, an AI-driven feature that captures not only spoken words but also conveys how something is said, including elongated words and background sounds like whistling. This feature aims to provide a richer understanding of audio content for users.
On the Chrome front, updates include Optical Character Recognition (OCR) support for scanned PDFs, enabling screen readers to access their content.
Chrome for Android also benefits from customizable Page Zoom, improving readability without disrupting page layouts. (QNA)
