Cairo, September 08 (QNA) - The Arab League on Tuesday vigorously denounced Houthi attacks on several civilian and economic targets in Saudi cities that caused injuries to civilians, as well as the persistent targeting of commercial vessels in the Red Sea and threats to the freedom of international maritime traffic.

In a statement, Secretary-General Nabil Fahmy stressed that these assaults are unacceptable when it comes to the security of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the safety of its citizens and residents.

He expressed the League’s full solidarity with Saudi Arabia in fending off anything that compromises its security, sovereignty and territorial integrity, reaffirming that the organization backs all lawful Saudi measures to protect its citizens and national interests.

The security of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is a pillar of the Arab national security system, Fahmy underlined, stating that the stability and security of the Arab Gulf states are inseparable from the security and stability of the wider Arab region.

Fahmy further stressed that the Houthis' pursuit of this escalation by attacking Saudi Arabia and imperiling maritime security in the Red Sea constitutes an extremely dangerous development, as these actions threaten regional security and stability.

These actions flagrantly breach the rules-based international order, international humanitarian law, the UN Charter and the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, while brazenly challenging relevant Security Council resolutions, chiefly Resolution 2216.

He stressed the importance of the international community undertaking its responsibilities to deter these assaults and holding their perpetrators to account. (QNA)
