Geneva, September 08 (QNA) - Israel's continued violations in Syrian territory and its actions there may amount to war crimes, said Fionnuala Ni Aolain, a member of the UN Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the Syrian Arab Republic.

Ni Aolain warned of the dangers of expanding the Israeli presence and the implications for Syria's sovereignty and territorial integrity, which could imperil the country's security and stability.

Speaking at the Commission's press conference in Geneva on Tuesday, Ni Aolain said the Commission had huddled with civilians during its visits to various parts of the country, listening to their aspirations, needs and experiences. She noted that civilians' principal grievances centered on continued Israeli violations in their areas.

Ni Aolain added that the Commission had witnessed the impact of Israeli violations on local communities in Quneitra and Daraa, as Syrians seek to rebuild their country and their lives.

She pointed to recurring raids and searches, as well as the establishment of a network of temporary checkpoints and fixed military infrastructure on Syrian territory, which have had far-reaching consequences for civilian life.

Israeli forces had detained dozens of Syrian civilians, including children, Ni Aolain noted, stating that the Commission had identified 49 individuals, including two children, detained on Syrian territory and believed to have been transferred across the border into Israel.

She stressed that such acts may amount to war crimes, underscoring the Commission's profound consternation over the expansion of Israel's presence in Syrian territory and stressing that such actions are unacceptable and must stop. (QNA)
