India Launches First Imaging Satellite Operating from Geosynchronous Orbit

New Delhi, September 04 (QNA) - The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) successfully launched EOS-05 today, India's first imaging satellite designed to operate from geosynchronous orbit, from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota, southern India.

The EOS-05 satellite, weighing 2,367 kilograms, was launched aboard the three-stage GSLV-F17 rocket.

ISRO said that about 18 minutes after liftoff, the rocket placed the satellite into a Sub-Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit.

The satellite will monitor the Indian subcontinent, including remote border areas, strategic assets, severe weather phenomena and environmental events. (QNA)
