New York, September 26 (QNA) - The Arab League on Saturday reiterated its utmost rejection of any moves to alter the geographic and demographic character of the occupied Palestinian territory.

The remarks came from Secretary-General Nabil Fahmy during a joint Arab League-OIC ministerial meeting on Jerusalem on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

Fahmy lambasted Israel's daily actions and policies, saying they suggest that it is inclined to change Jerusalem's identity as well as its legal and historic character. He also cited the statement issued by the League Council at its ministerial-level session convened this September on the situation in the occupied Arab territories.

He stressed that what matters most is that the Security Council and the international community move beyond mere condemnation to action and assume responsibility for protecting Jerusalem and its sanctities, in addition to compelling Israel to cease all settlement and expansionist activities, as well as forced displacement, looting and confiscation of land.

In addition, Fahmy cautioned against the consequences of Israel's persistent provocative actions and policies and the disregard for Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem. (QNA)
