Riyadh, September 26 (QNA) - The Iraqi national team defeated its Kuwaiti counterpart 3-2 in a match held Saturday at Prince Abdullah Al Faisal Stadium in the second round of Group A competition in the 27th Arabian Gulf Cup, currently being held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

Iraq's goals came from Zidan Iqbal in the 52nd minute, Saif Rasheed in the 83rd minute, and Karar Nabil in the 90+8th minute. Kuwait's goals were scored by Yousef Nasser in the 75th minute from a penalty kick and in the 90th minute.

The Iraqi national team strengthened its chances of securing one of two qualification spots to the semifinals from the group stage, raising its tally to four points and temporarily topping the standings, one point ahead of the Saudi national team, which is currently facing its Omani counterpart, which has one point in the same round.

Kuwait's tally remained at zero points, meaning it will be eliminated from the tournament regardless of its final match against the Omani national team. (QNA)
