Tokyo, September 24 (QNA) - Japan's Nikkei index rose at Thursday's close, continuing its gains for the fourth consecutive session, supported by a rise in the shares of companies linked to central processing unit components.

The Nikkei rose 0.76 percent to 65,513.99 points, while the broader TOPIX index fell 0.39 percent to 4,075.3 points.

Shares of Ibiden, a manufacturer of central processing unit components, jumped 14.57 percent, while shares of Socionext, Meiko Electronics, and Ushio rose by more than 10 percent.

Shares of Advantest, a manufacturer of chip-testing equipment, rose 3.15 percent, while shares of Tokyo Electron, a chip-equipment manufacturer, rose 1.54 percent.

In contrast, bank shares declined, negatively affecting the TOPIX index, while the yield on Japan's 10-year government bonds rose to 3.075 percent, its highest level since August 1996. (QNA)
