LoginQatar Philharmonic Orchestra to Kick Off 2026-2027 Season Sept. 6
Doha, August 30 (QNA) - The Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra (QPO) will open its 2026-2027 season on Sept. 6 with an exceptional concert featuring a distinguished performance of Antonin Dvorak's Symphony No. 9 "From the New World".
The composition will be conducted by maestro Elias Grandy and will feature acclaimed international pianist Joseph Moog, with the concert taking place at the Qatar National Convention Centre (QNCC).
The season-opening program features two masterpieces of the Romantic era.
The evening will begin with a performance of Johannes Brahms' Piano Concerto No. 2, one of the most celebrated works in the classical piano repertoire, before concluding with Dvorak's Symphony No. 9, one of the most cherished symphonic works, which was inspired by the composer's experiences during his stay in the United States.
The opening concert heralds a new and eventful season that reflects QPO's commitment to artistic excellence, the promotion of cultural dialogue, and the presentation of world-class musical experiences.
Throughout the season, audiences will be treated to an awe-inspiring program featuring some of the world's most renowned conductors and international soloists, alongside performances of major orchestral masterpieces and special concerts celebrating Qatar's cultural partnerships with several countries, including Mexico and Canada.
QPO Executive Director Kurt Meister said the new season embodies its ongoing mission to bring exceptional music to audiences in Qatar while promoting cultural exchange and unlocking new artistic prospects.
QPO is excited to welcome audiences back for a season that brings together timeless masterpieces, unique cultural celebrations, and unforgettable performances, Meister added.
Highlights of the season include a performance of Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto No. 1 and special concerts held as part of the Qatar-Mexico Year of Culture and Qatar-Canada Year of Culture, alongside the Qatar premiere of George Gershwin's An American in Paris and a diverse selection of orchestral masterpieces by leading composers such as Brahms, Shostakovich, Stravinsky and Gershwin, among others.
