Capitals, August 25 (QNA) - The much-heralded US decision to remove Syria from the list of state sponsors of terrorism received widespread Arab and Islamic welcome on Tuesday.

Several Arab capitals and organizations hailed the move as a positive development that will help back efforts to achieve stability in Syria and the Middle East as a whole and bolster the political settlement process in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions.

Saudi Arabia welcomed the decision, with its Ministry of Foreign Affairs reaffirming the Kingdom's support for the positive steps taken by the Damascus government to strengthen the country's security and stability, contribute to building state institutions, and meet the Syrian people's aspirations for a more stable and prosperous future.

Kuwait, for its part, welcomed the decision as an important step toward supporting Syria's recovery, reconstruction and development and enhancing its return to its natural regional and international role.

In a statement, the Kuwaiti Ministry of Foreign Affairs affirmed Kuwait's iron-clad position in support of everything that would fulfill the aspirations of the Syrian people and safeguard Syria's unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity, ensuring a secure and stable future for its people.

The United Arab Emirates, in turn, welcomed the decision as a positive step that supports Syria's stability and prosperity. Its Ministry of Foreign Affairs reaffirmed the UAE's position in support of all efforts aimed at fulfilling the Syrian people's aspirations for security, stability, peaceful coexistence and development.

Bahrain also welcomed the step as an important development that would support the Syrian government's efforts to strengthen security and stability in Syria, advance reconstruction and recovery, expand opportunities for development and investment, and create conditions conducive to reintegrating Syria into the global financial and economic systems.

In a statement, the Bahraini Ministry of Foreign Affairs affirmed the Kingdom of Bahrain's unwavering position in support of Syria's security and stability and its unity and territorial integrity, which ultimately fulfills the aspirations of its people for security and prosperity and boosts its active role in its Arab and international peripheries.

Jordan welcomed the decision, affirming that it constitutes a consequential step toward supporting Syria's rebuilding efforts, advancing recovery efforts and fulfilling its people's aspirations for development and prosperity.

The Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs underscored Amman's enduring position in support of Damascus and rebuilding efforts on foundations that guarantee the nation's unity, sovereignty, security and stability and territorial integrity, while safeguarding the rights of all Syrians.

The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) welcomed the move and hoped that it would contribute to building Syrian state institutions, pave the way for a secure and prosperous future, and support stability and reconstruction.

The US Department of the Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) issued an official update to the sanctions regulations on Monday, declaring the removal of Syria from the list of state sponsors of terrorism following the completion of the legal procedures related to the congressional review without any objection being recorded.
