Damascus, August 25 (QNA) - Mazloum Abdi, commander of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), announced Tuesday the dissolution of the SDF, the Autonomous Administration and all affiliated military and civilian formations, affirming their full integration into state institutions.

Addressing a press conference at the People's Palace in Damascus, Abdi said that today a new chapter is opened under the title of peace, stability and nation-building, declaring the end of the SDF's mission and its disbandment as a military force.

The next phase should essentially be devoted to moving from battlefields to construction fields, Abdi stressed, highlighting that the goal is to build a new Syria for all its Arab peoples, the Kurds, Turkmen and Assyrians, and be a united nation that protects the future of its people and secures a decent life for children.

He noted that there had been an indication from President Ahmed Al Sharaa that he supports the right to education in the Kurdish language.

In early August 2026, Al Sharaa discussed with Abdi the importance of completing the January 29 agreement and following up on the integration path within the state institutions.

Following that meeting, the presidency proclaimed a joint understanding between the government and SDF on several issues related to the disposition of Hasakah Governorate in northeastern Syria.

It was concurred upon integrating all SDF's military and security personnel into the Defense and Interior Ministries, with continuation of discussions on the detailed integration mechanism, as civilian institutions would likewise be integrated into the government.

The Presidency further clarified that Presidential Decree No. 13 regarding linguistic, cultural rights and Kurds' rights to citizenship would be enforced, thereby manifesting a shared obligation to build a united and powerful Syria based on national partnership and ensuring rights to all its components.
