Palestinian Presidency Urges UNSC to Stop Israeli Attacks on UN Institutions
Ramallah, August 25 (QNA) - The Palestinian Presidency has clamored for an exigent convention of the UN Security Council (UNSC) and compelling action to cease the Israeli onslaught on the UN compounds and institutions in Palestine.
In a statement Tuesday, the presidency noted that the incursion into a UNRWA-run compound in Qalandiya is obviously a harbinger of impending razing operations against UN facilities.
Targeting UN headquarters and establishments in occupied Palestine, including Jerusalem, amounts to a grave breach of international law and the immunity of international institutions, and a menacing escalation that mustn't go unnoticed, the statement stressed.
It added that these assaults are part of a methodical and unrelenting Israeli policy intended to target the Palestinian people, their institutions and national rights, concurrently with the ongoing war of annihilation and siege in the Gaza enclave.
What transpires in Jerusalem and Qalandiya, the statement continued, is part of a combined policy with the aim of depopulation and altering the geographic and demographic status quo of the occupied Palestinian territory.
The statement added that this policy broadly intends to entrench the occupation and settlement expansion, asserting that dragging out these policies amid lack of international accountability would inevitably encourage the Israeli government to prosecute its violations.
It further emphasized that these policies amount to a grave threat to security and stability in the region, as well as to the international law system and the entire international legitimacy. (QNA)
