US Envoy for Syria Says Golan is Occupied Syrian Territory
Washington, August 22 (QNA) - US Special Envoy for Syria and ambassador to Turkiye, Tom Barrack said that the Israeli control over the Syrian Golan Heights is an "occupation that violates UN resolutions and the entire international order."
In press remarks, Barak said that the Golan Heights belong to Syria according to UN resolutions and international law. He added, "Israel still occupies the Golan against UN resolutions, against the entire international order, which has said the Golan is Syrian" as reported by the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA).
UN resolutions concerning the Golan Heights, particularly Security Council Resolution 497 of 1981, affirm that Israel's decision to impose its laws, jurisdiction, and administration on the Golan Heights is null and void and has no international legal effect.
Last April, Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Hassan al-Shaibani reiterated during a Security Council session that the Syrian Golan Heights remains under occupation, demanding the implementation of Security Council Resolution 497 and Israel's withdrawal to the June 4, 1967, line. (QNA)
