QRCS Continues Supporting Affected People in Yemen
Doha, August 22 (QNA) - Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) has launched a new project in Yemen to provide multifaceted life-saving health, nutrition, and cash assistance for the war-affected populations in Al Hudaydah Governorate's Al Zaydiyah and Al Dahi districts.
With a total funding of USD 1 million from the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs' (OCHA) Yemen Humanitarian Fund (YHF), the project serves more than 55,000 displaced and local beneficiaries, with a special focus on under-five children and pregnant/lactating women, said QRCS's press release.
It added that the project involves diverse activities that fall under three key categories, as follows:
1. Health: Four health facilities will be operated (two hospitals and two health centers), with medications, medical supplies, equipment, and staff remunerations secured to ensure continued services (including primary health care, reproductive health, C-sections, emergency care, medical referrals, and mental health services).
2. Nutrition: Targeted programs will be implemented to treat acute malnutrition among children and women, dedicated infant and child feeding centers will be created, regular community screening campaigns will be launched, and food/hygiene awareness sessions will be held, to help prevent and reduce malnutrition.
3. Cash assistance: Direct, multi-purpose payments will be given to the most vulnerable families to help them meet their basic needs and alleviate their economic burdens, including the costs of food and access to health services. (QNA)
