Beirut, August 14 (QNA) - Lebanon's Minister of Finance, Yassine Jaber met today with the International Monetary Fund's (IMF) Resident Representative in Lebanon, Federico Lima to discuss cooperation between the two sides and developments related to the country's reform programme, particularly in the financial and banking sectors.
During the meeting, Jaber affirmed the government's and Parliament's determination to complete the required reforms, particularly those aimed at revitalising the economy and the financial and banking sectors. He said the measures would contribute to restoring confidence in Lebanon and strengthening its economic and financial role.
Jaber stressed that completing the reforms forms part of the Lebanese authorities' commitment to finalising the necessary legal and legislative measures that provide the foundation for advancing cooperation with the IMF.
For his part, Lima expressed the IMF's satisfaction with the Lebanese Parliament's approval of amendments to the Banking Restructuring Law. He also voiced hope that the Financial Gap Law would be enacted soon, given the importance of such legislation in reviving the domestic economy, improving the country's financial position, and creating the conditions necessary to restore confidence in the economy and banking sector.
