London, August 14 (QNA) - Wildfires in England and Wales have reached unprecedented levels, with officials warning that the growing fire risk is becoming increasingly difficult to manage amid Britain's fifth heatwave of the summer.
The number of wildfires has already surpassed last year's total of 1,017, with officials warning the season could continue through November.
Prime Minister Andy Burnham urged residents to remain vigilant as 37 fires continued to burn across the country. Britain is also heading toward its hottest summer on record, with around 45 million people facing drought conditions and 27 million under water-use restrictions.
Temperatures reached 38.1 degrees Celsius in London on Thursday, among the UK's highest ever recorded. The heat has also disrupted transport, with a major motorway temporarily closed and rail services affected. (QNA)
