Lebanon Parliament Speaker Discusses Southern Developments with Military Coordination Group Chief
Beirut, August 14 (QNA) - Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri met Friday with General Joseph Clearfield, head of the Military Coordination Group for Lebanon (MCG4L), to discuss the situation in the south and the group’s work, including identifying pilot areas and mechanisms to verify the Israeli withdrawal and deployment of the Lebanese Army.
Berri said Israel has continued systematic violations and attacks against Lebanon and the south since November 2024, including the destruction of villages, farmland and forests, as well as damage to heritage sites.
He stressed that stability depends on forcing Israel to end its war and withdraw to the international border.
Lebanon and Israel reached a US-brokered ceasefire agreement on November 27, 2024, providing for a gradual Israeli withdrawal, the deployment of the Lebanese Army and UNIFIL in the south, and the restriction of weapons south of the Litani River to official forces. (QNA)
