Kuwait, August 11 (QNA) - Kuwait expressed its condemnation and denunciation of Colombia's recognition of Israeli sovereignty over the occupied Syrian Golan Heights, reaffirming its rejection of the move as a violation of international law and relevant international resolutions, particularly UN Security Council Resolution 497 of 1981, which declared Israel's imposition of its laws and administration on the Golan null and void and without legal effect.

In a statement today, the Kuwaiti Ministry of Foreign Affairs reiterated Kuwait's firm position that the Golan is occupied Syrian Arab territory and rejected any decisions aimed at entrenching the occupation or granting it legitimacy. It also stressed the principle that territory may not be acquired by force, in accordance with the UN Charter and the principles of international law.

Kuwait reaffirmed its support for the sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity of the Syrian Arab Republic, renewing its call on the international community, particularly the UN Security Council, to fulfill its responsibilities in ensuring respect for international law and the UN Charter and compelling Israeli occupation forces to withdraw from all occupied Arab territories.
