London, July 01 (QNA) - world No. 1 Jannik Sinner advanced to the third round of Wimbledon Championships, the third Grand Slam tournament of the tennis season, after defeating Portugal's Nuno Borges in straight sets 7-6, 7-6, 6-4.
Sinner will face Jenson Brooksby, ranked 81st, in the third round.
Russia's Daniil Medvedev, the tournament's ninth seed, also reached the third round after defeating Spain's Daniel Merida Aguilar in four sets, 3-6, 6-3, 7-5, 6-2.
In the women's draw, world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka advanced to the third round with a straight-sets victory over McCartney Kessler, 6-1, 7-6. The four-time Grand Slam champion will next face Latvia's Jelena Ostapenko, the 2017 French Open champion, who defeated Croatia's Antonia Ruzic in straight sets, 6-2, 6-0. (QNA)
