Qatar Team Prepares for Debut at 24 Hours of Le Mans in France
Doha, June 08 (QNA) - The Qatar team is preparing to participate for the first time in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, in its 94th edition, scheduled for June 13–14 at the Circuit de la Sarthe.
The race features three main categories: Hypercar, LMP2, and LMGT3, with 62 cars on the grid and 14 major manufacturers competing for top positions.
The Qatar team will compete in partnership with Iron Lynx, driving a Mercedes-AMG Motorsport car in the LMGT3 category, the largest grid with 25 cars and 75 drivers.
The team includes Qatari driver Abdullah Al Khalifi, alongside Julian Hanses and Girolami Alesi.
This participation marks an important milestone for Qatari motorsport, following the team’s strong development in endurance racing since 2023.
In its debut season, the team won the team title in the Porsche 992 AM class in the Middle East series, achieving multiple podium finishes in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Kuwait.
The team later expanded into European competitions, becoming a consistent contender in endurance races ranging from six to 24 hours. In 2025, it secured victories in the Dubai 24 Hours AM class and the Middle East Championship Porsche 992 team title.
Further success followed in the Abu Dhabi 6 Hours and Mugello 12 Hours, including a notable international win against established European teams, as well as a second-place finish in the Spa-Francorchamps 12 Hours.
The Qatar team also showed strong form in the early rounds of the 2026 European Le Mans Series, securing pole position in LMGT3 in Barcelona and earning driver accolades after leading most of the race before finishing fourth, followed by another pole position at Circuit Paul Ricard.
The FIA World Endurance Championship, which includes Le Mans, remains one of the highest levels of endurance motorsport, with Qatar also hosting the Qatar 1812 km race as part of the championship calendar since 2024. (QNA)
