Jordan Denounces Israeli Attacks in Syria, Calls for Immediate Halt
Amman, June 29 (QNA) - The Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs denounced the persistent Israeli offensives on Syrian territory; the latest were the incursions into the provinces of Quneitra and Daraa.
It said these actions targeted the region with artillery salvos and condemned them as a flagrant breach of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Syria, as well as international law and the United Nations Charter.
In a statement on Monday, the official spokesperson of the Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Fouad Majali, stressed the criticality of halting all repeated Israeli assaults and actions that target Syria's security and stability.
These actions, Majali said, run afoul of the UN Charter and Israel's obligations under the 1974 Disengagement Agreement, adding that they are a perilous and provocative escalation that could only ignite a regional tinderbox.
In addition, Majali reaffirmed Jordan's ironclad position in supporting Syria to rebuild on the foundations that ensure the unity, sovereignty, security, stability, and territorial integrity of Syria and its people.
As such, Majali called on the international community to assume its legal and moral responsibility and compel Israel to cease its unlawful, provocative attacks on Syria.
He further stressed that Israel must end the occupation of part of Syrian territory and live up to its obligations to respect the international rules-based order, the resolutions of international legitimacy, nations' sovereignty, and non-interference in Syria's internal affairs. (QNA)
