FIFA 2026 World Cup: Algeria, Austria Qualify to Round of 32 After 3-3 Draw
Kansas City, June 28 (QNA) - Algeria qualified for the round of 32 of the 2026 FIFA World Cup after a thrilling 3-3 draw against Austria in their final Group J match. This result secured their place in the knockout stages as one of the best third-placed teams.
Austria scored first in the 28th minute through Marko Arnautovic. However, Rafik Belghali equalized for Algeria in the 45th minute, ending the first half 1-1.
In the second half, Austria regained the lead with a goal from Marcel Sabitzer in the 54th minute, but Algeria's captain, Riyad Mahrez, leveled the score in the 60th minute.
Algeria took the lead with a third goal, only for Austria to equalize in stoppage time, ending the match 3-3. This result ensured both teams' qualification for the round of 32.
Austria finished the group stage in second place, while Algeria finished third with four points, officially qualifying for the round of 32 as one of the best third-placed teams.
Algeria will face Switzerland in the next round on Friday, while Austria will play Spain. (QNA)
