FIFA 2026 World Cup: DR Congo Win Against Uzbekistan, Qualifies for Round of 32
Atlanta, June 28 (QNA) - The Democratic Republic of Congo qualified for the round of 32 of the FIFA 2026 World Cup after defeating Uzbekistan 3-1 in the final match of Group K games at the Atlanta Stadium.
DR Congo finished the group stage portion of the tournament in third place with 4 points, securing its qualification into the round of 32.
Uzbekistan finished last with 0 points.
DR Congo achieved a historic first win in its history of World Cup participation, having only taken part once before in 1974. They also have reached the knockout stages for the first time.
During the match, Uzbekistan took an early lead with a goal scored by Eldor Shomurodov in the 10th minute, before Yoane Wissa equalized for DR Congo from a penalty kick in the 68th minute.
DR Congo continued their pressure during the final minutes, with Fiston Mayele scoring the second goal in the 78th minute, before Yoane Wissa added to the tally with a powerful shot from outside the penalty area in the 91st minute, ending the match 3-1 to DR Congo. (QNA)
