Qatar's National Basketball Team to Face Tunisia in Friendly on Tuesday
Doha, June 22 (QNA) - Qatar's senior national basketball team will face Tunisia in two friendlies, the first of which will take place at Al Gharafa SC Multi-Purpose Hall on Tuesday.
Organized by the Qatar Basketball Federation, these matches are held to prepare for the resumption of the Asian and Oceania qualifiers for the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027 in Qatar.
The match is particularly important for the national team's coaching staff, led by Turkish coach Hakan Demir, who hopes to make the most of the two friendlies against Tunisia on June 23 and 25.
The friendly matches against Tunisia aim to assess the national team players' technical and physical readiness and to test various tactical options before the upcoming official competitions.
They also carry added significance because they come just days before Qatar's anticipated clash with Saudi Arabia at Al Gharafa Sports Club Multi-Purpose Hallon on June 29, which is expected to have a direct impact on group standings.
The games against Tunisia come just days after Qatar concluded their overseas training camp in Antalya, which ran from June 11 to 20.
The camp featured an intensive technical and physical program focused on improving fitness levels, strengthening team cohesion, and refining the tactics the coaching staff plans to employ during the next phase of qualifying.
Meanwhile, the Tunisian national team are currently holding a training camp in Doha as part of their preparations for the Window 3 of the 2027 World Cup African Qualifiers in Angola, scheduled for July 2-5.
Having performed impressively in the qualifiers so far, Qatar opened their campaign with a narrow 75-74 defeat to Lebanon in Doha before defeating Lebanon 86-83 in Beirut, one of Qatar's most notable basketball victories in recent years.
The national team continued their positive run by defeating India 99-73 in Doha, further demonstrating the progress of Qatari basketball and its ability to compete strongly against some of Asia's leading national teams. (QNA)
