Arab League Ministerial Council Approves Nomination of Nabil Fahmy as New Secretary-General
Amman, June 23 (QNA) - The Council of the Arab League at the ministerial level has unanimously approved the nomination of Nabil Fahmy as the organization's next secretary-general for a five-year term beginning July 1, succeeding Ahmed Aboul Gheit.
The council, meeting in its resumed 165th ordinary session in the Jordanian capital, expressed its best wishes for Fahmy's success in his new role, citing confidence in his diplomatic experience and ability to advance Arab joint action and address current regional challenges.
The decision followed an earlier unanimous endorsement during a virtual session of the council's 165th ordinary meeting on March 29, in which Arab foreign ministers supported Egypt's nomination of Fahmy for the post. (QNA)
