MECC Launches Third Summer Environmental Club Under "Guardians of Environment" Theme
Doha, June 21 (QNA) - The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MECC) launched on Sunday the third edition of its Summer Environmental Club 2026 under the theme "Guardians of the Environment," with the participation of 26 students aged 11 and 17.
The two-week program, which runs until July 2, is part of the Ministry's efforts to promote environmental awareness among young people and encourage their active participation in protecting the environment and conserving natural resources.
The club's activities began with an introductory session during which participants were briefed on the program's objectives, key themes, schedule of workshops and field visits, as well as the organizational guidelines governing participation throughout the program.
The opening day featured a practical workshop on mobile environmental photography, where students learned techniques for documenting terrestrial and marine environments, selecting effective shooting angles, and utilizing smartphone capabilities to produce visual content that highlights the beauty of Qatar's environment and conveys environmental awareness messages in innovative ways.
Speaking on the occasion, Director of the Public Relations and Communications Department at the Ministry, Dr. Farhoud Hadi Al Hajri, said the third edition builds on the success of the previous editions and reflects the Ministry's commitment to enhancing environmental awareness among younger generations through practical and interactive learning experiences.
He noted that the club serves as an educational and awareness platform aimed at preparing a generation that is more conscious of its environmental responsibilities, adding that the theme "Guardians of the Environment" reflects the program's mission to instill positive environmental behavior and strengthen the concepts of individual and collective responsibility for environmental protection.
Al Hajri stressed that environmental awareness begins with young people by transforming knowledge into a daily commitment that contributes to safeguarding natural resources for future generations. He added that the program's full enrollment reflects the growing interest of students and parents in meaningful summer initiatives and the confidence the club has earned through its previous editions.
He reaffirmed the Ministry's commitment to further developing the program and diversifying its activities to align with students' interests while providing them with direct exposure to environmental work in Qatar.
For her part, Assistant Director of the Public Relations and Communication Department at MECC, Mariam Al Kaabi said the third edition was developed in coordination with the Ministry's relevant departments to provide a comprehensive learning experience that combines knowledge, observation, and practical application, enabling participants to engage directly with specialists across various environmental fields.
She explained that the decision to begin the program with a mobile photography workshop was driven by its relevance to students' interests and its effectiveness as a tool for documenting Qatar's environment and delivering awareness messages through modern and innovative methods.
Al Kaabi added that the program includes a range of specialized workshops covering environmental project assessment, environmental monitoring, the safe use of radiation, hazardous waste tracking, and modern technologies used in environmental protection and sustainability.
She noted that the club goes beyond providing environmental information by helping participants develop observation, critical-thinking, and engagement skills, while encouraging them to share their knowledge with their families and schools, thereby promoting environmentally responsible practices within the wider community.
The Summer Environmental Club forms part of the Ministry's awareness programs targeting youth and aims to familiarize participants with local environmental issues, strengthen their sense of environmental responsibility, and encourage them to contribute actively to the protection and preservation of natural resources.
