Arab League Opens Documentary Museum to Preserve Shared Arab Memory
Cairo, June 21 (QNA) - The League of Arab States on Sunday announced the official opening of a documentary museum at its headquarters in Cairo. The museum aims to document shared Arab history, promote scientific research, and enhance awareness of Arab cultural heritage.
Speaking at the inauguration, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States Ahmed Aboul Gheit said the museum serves as a new knowledge center dedicated to preserving the collective Arab historical record through documents and correspondence spanning more than eight decades.
Aboul Gheit said the museum is the culmination of the pioneering strategic project to digitize and document the "Memory of the League of Arab States," which member states have recognized as a pan-Arab national project.
He added that the digitization of hundreds of thousands of historical documents, correspondence, resolutions, and treaties, and their preservation using the latest archiving and documentation systems, helped shape a comprehensive vision for transforming this digital archive into a physical museum space.
The Secretary-General noted that the documentary museum, dedicated to the history of joint Arab action, aims to place the Arab nation's "living memory" in the hands of researchers and younger generations, not only to explore the pages of history but also to draw lessons and insights that have helped shape the present and build the future.
