Beirut, June 19 (QNA) - A new wave of displacement has been reported in southern Lebanon following an escalation in Israeli military activity that began on Thursday, according to local sources.
Heavy traffic was seen on roads leading from southern Lebanon towards Beirut, Mount Lebanon and other areas considered safer, as large numbers of residents left villages and towns near the border.
Field sources said many families had returned to their homes in recent weeks after a period of relative calm that followed a US-Iran memorandum of understanding and its perceived impact on the situation in Lebanon. However, the renewed violence has prompted many to leave once again.
Earlier on Friday, Lebanon's health ministry said continuing Israeli air strikes from midnight through the morning had killed 18 people and injured 33 others.
Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump said on Thursday that Washington expected a complete ceasefire across all fronts. He called on all parties in the Middle East to honor their commitments. (QNA)
