Arab League Underscores Need to Provide Sustainable Support to UNRWA
Amman, June 17 (QNA) - The Arab League and Arab states hosting Palestinian refugees have stressed the need to provide sustained political and financial support to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA).
This came during a meeting that brought the Arab League and Arab host states' delegations, together with the Acting Commissioner-General of UNRWA, on the sidelines of UNRWA's Advisory Commission's Arab coordination meeting.
Participants stressed the importance of ensuring that UNRWA continues to provide its services, protect the rights of Palestinian refugees, and preserve their human dignity, fulfilling its responsibilities and obligations, despite existing challenges.
In a statement issued Wednesday, the Arab League said that the meeting reviewed the latest developments concerning UNRWA's work and its relief and service programs across its five fields of operation, in light of the worsening humanitarian and financial crises it faces, particularly in the Gaza Strip.
Discussions also addressed the challenges related to maintaining the provision of essential services to Palestinian refugees in the areas of education, healthcare, relief assistance, and social services. (QNA)
