Iraqi Politicians, Experts Tell QNA: Qatar's Role Helped Secure US-Iran Accord, Strengthen Regional Stability
Baghdad, June 17 (QNA) - The declaration of an agreement on the US-Iran memorandum of understanding, alongside the efforts the State of Qatar had exerted in the negotiations and bridging the viewpoints between the two countries, has received broader commendations in Iraq, amid increasing sanguinity that the deal would constitute a turning point that terminates the ongoing tension.
Speaking to Qatar News Agency (QNA), Iraqi politicians confirmed that the Qatari supportive role in Washington-Tehran negotiations had helped shield both the region and the world from grave security and economic consequences, strengthening the opportunity for transition to a new phase of regional stability.
This positive transition would be directly reflected on Iraq, which has been one of the countries that was mostly affected by conflicts and regional rivalries, the politicians underlined.
They emphasized that Doha had pulled off deepening its standing as a reliable intermediary and peacemaker through leveraging its balanced relationship with a variety of parties, thereby contributing to bridging perspectives and providing the fitting foundation to reach understandings that would de-escalate tensions and broaden new horizons for dialogue.
The Iraqi political pundit Omar Al Shaher underscored that the cessation of hostilities in the region and reaching this memorandum have created some sort of satisfaction based on a variety of optics in Iraq.
This news was instantly demonstrated in the positions of the Iraqi government that welcomed these understandings and termed them as a consequential step toward de-escalating tensions and reinforcing opportunities for stability, Al Shaher recalled.
He added that Baghdad praised the international and diplomatic efforts that precluded the exacerbation of the situation in the region, particularly the role undertaken by the State of Qatar in bridging the viewpoints between the concerned parties and backing political solutions, which ultimately helped deepen regional security and peace.
Political Analyst Iyad Al Anbar emphasized that Qatar had made an important diplomatic achievement in its role in bridging the postures of the American and Iranian sides, culminating in reaching the agreement of terminating the military operations and de-escalating tensions.
This Qatari milestone demonstrates the position that Doha has been pursuing in addressing intractable regional issues, Al Anbar pointed out.
This agreement, Al Anbar noted, would be positively reflected on the Iraqi political theater through bridging viewpoints among various political forces and having more fitting atmospheres in place to address a raft of critical domestic issues, foremost of which are the efforts to monopolize weapons to be exclusively wielded by the state and regulate the relationship between the armed factions and the state.
These understandings had helped reduce escalation and exchanges of attacks, something that would plausibly prevent Iraqi territories from being used as a battleground for regional conflicts, Al Anbar noted, explaining that this breakthrough would give the Iraqi government further room to focus on service and development issues.
Iraqi parliament member Ahmed Al Saadi, for his part, applauded the pivotal role Qatar had played in pulling off the mediation efforts, emphasizing that Doha has entrenched its standing as a reliable peacemaker both on the regional and global stages.
The Qatari diplomatic shuttles had helped forge confidence bridges between Washington and Tehran regarding an amalgamation of delicate issues, Al Saadi suggested, adding that these shuttles offered the fitting groundwork for reaching the understandings.
Al Saadi further noted that the success of these efforts relays a message of hope to the peoples of the region that conflicts can literally be resolved through dialogue and peaceful means.
Economically, economist and head of Iraq Future Foundation Manar Al Obaidi said the resumption of maritime traffic naturally in the Strait of Hormuz has relayed assurance important messages to regional and international markets, owing to the strategic significance of this Strait in securing the flows of oil and gas into the global markets.
The state of stability this accord has produced can foster confidence in the Iraqi economy and encourage the flow of foreign investments, particularly in energy, infrastructure and electricity sectors, as well as providing more fitting environment to implement development projects, he outlined.
Al Obaidi suggested that the backtrack of regional tensions and the return of stability to the international traffic lanes would definitely provide Iraq with a greater opportunity to focus on its economic and development priorities, away from the consequences of crises and conflicts that have depleted the region's resources throughout the past years.
This supportive role of the State of Qatar in bridging the perspectives between the US and Iran is a model for effective diplomacy that is capable of addressing crises through dialogue and understanding.
The success of these Qatari efforts is by far not confined to the parties to the conflict, but goes beyond to include all countries of the region, primarily Iraq which looks forward to a phase that is more stable, secure and prosperous. (QNA)
