ICESCO, Bibliotheca Alexandrina Discuss Launching Joint Projects to Support Islamic, Human Heritage
Rabat, June 13 (QNA) - The Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO) and the Bibliotheca Alexandrina discussed launching joint projects to revive Islamic and human heritage through the restoration of manuscripts and rare books.
During a joint meeting at the organization's headquarters in the Moroccan capital, Rabat, the two sides also discussed translating historical, intellectual, and Islamic works into several languages and launching a joint reading award to encourage young people to read and promote intellectual culture.
Director-General of ICESCO, Dr. Salim bin Mohammed AlMalik emphasized the importance of benefiting from the Bibliotheca Alexandrina's extensive experience in documentation, digital preservation, and the management of heritage collections. He called for building strategic partnerships between the two institutions to enhance the presence of Islamic and human heritage and make it accessible to new generations and researchers worldwide.
For his part, Director of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, Prof. Ahmed Abdullah Zayed Hegab highlighted the initiative to summarize 1,000 books and encyclopedias to make knowledge more accessible to young people and facilitate their access to its contents. He also reviewed the library's awards and programs over the past years aimed at promoting a culture of reading and scientific research.
He explained that the library houses more than one million books, over 600 original historical manuscripts, and approximately 21,000 photographic manuscripts, and receives nearly three thousand visitors daily. (QNA)
