New York, July 28 (QNA) - The United Nations on Tuesday warned of the rapid deterioration of the situation in the West Bank, condemning the rising settler violence against Palestinians.

In a brief before the UN Security Council, Deputy Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process Ramiz Alekperov said that over the past week, the rising escalation in the West Bank resulted in the fall of civilian victims, coupled with displacement, property damage, and a mounting sense of insecurity in the affected communities.

He added that the Israeli settlers' rampages against the Palestinian communities, their homes, places of worship, and infrastructure continued in an alarming manner.

Alekperov called on Israel to take immediate and effective measures to prevent these acts, protect the Palestinian communities, and ensure that the perpetrators are held accountable.

This rapid deterioration of the situation in the West Bank will only aggravate the situation, which already raises apprehension about the situation in the rest of the occupied Palestinian territory, Alekperov cautioned, indicating that this trend is kindling a wide-scale escalation, which is increasingly likely unless prompt measures are taken to reverse this trend.

Earlier today, the Palestinian Cabinet warned of the profoundly perilous consequences of the rising settler terror in the West Bank, which resulted in the killing of defenseless Palestinians, as well as large-scale destruction and arson targeting property and mosques.

The Cabinet noted that the number of these assaults reached 225, including 152 raids on cities and villages in the past week alone. (QNA)
