Broad Synthesis of Publications Signed at DIBF Enriches Cultural Landscape
Doha, May 23 (QNA) - A sheer number of books and new publications have been launched and signed at the 35th Doha International Book Fair, covering the areas of thought, literature, heritage, as well as development and humanitarian sciences.
These showcases have broadly underscored the diversity of the cultural and knowledge movement that ensued at this fair amid the striking presence of writers, researchers, and those interested in reading.
One of the preeminent genres is "The Geology of Qatar: From a Heritage Perspective", by Sheikh Hassan bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani, issued by Katara Publishing House. The book broadly documents the old heritage names used by the people of Qatar to designate elements of the local environment, as well as its terrain and climate manifestations.
The book showcases rocks, sands, sinkholes, fossils, winds, and rainfall, and documents fossils dating back almost 45 million years, in addition to a dedicated chapter on the Empty Quarter and its geographical and historical relationship with Qatar.
In addition, the fairgrounds witnessed the signing of a book on "Qatari Women and Sustainable Development: Reading in Institutional Roles and Frameworks", by Sheikha Alanoud Ahmed Al-Thani, issued by Al Jazeera Centre for Studies.
This genre presents a scientific reading of the path pursued by Qatari women, along with the transformations they have undergone in the domains of education, work, and societal engagement.
It delves into the role of national policies and legislation in supporting women's empowerment within a development model that combines moderation and preservation of cultural identity.
In the critical domain, a book was showcased under the title "The Qatari Narrative Anthology through Eastern and Western Eyes: Critical Readings in the Qatari Short Story", supervised by Dr. Abdul Haq Belabed, member of Qatar Authors Forum and Professor of Literature and Critical and Comparative Studies at Qatar University, with the participation of critics and researchers from Arab and foreign countries.
The book in question addresses the evolution of the Qatari story since the 1970s, through critical readings that pursued a broad synthesis of curricula and highlighted the works of other Qatari writers, women's issues, as well as social transformations and humanitarian values in local narrative.
In the intellectual publications, the book "Life with the Shadow: Don Juan and the Double", by Austrian psychoanalyst Otto Rank was showcased. The book was translated by Dr. Nizar Chakroun.
This genre delves into the concepts of the shadow, the double, and existential alienation, as well as the human struggle with the self, while examining the character of "Don Juan" as a symbol of the modern human being in search of identity.
The fairgrounds also featured the launch of several new books covering philosophy, fiction, leadership, and entrepreneurship.
These include works exploring human self-awareness and relationships, short stories on existential and technological themes, practical leadership skills based on emotional intelligence, and guidance on turning ideas into sustainable business projects, with a focus on market trends and artificial intelligence.
These publications demonstrate the intellectual and cultural diversity showcased by the fair this year through the presence of heritage, criticism, literature, philosophy, development, leadership, and entrepreneurship books.
These showcases effectively promote the fair's standing as a knowledge platform that combines innovation, documentation, and cultural dialogue. (QNA)
