Qatar's Lekhwiya Concludes Search and Rescue Volunteer Training Program in Doha
Doha, May 13 (QNA) - Qatar's Internal Security Force (Lekhwiya) has concluded a training program aimed at qualifying volunteers in urban search and rescue, in cooperation with the Qatar Volunteer Center under the Ministry of Culture.
The program was implemented as part of a memorandum of understanding between the two sides and was attended by HE Lekhwiya Deputy Commander, Staff Major General Mohammed Misfer Al Shahwani.
Officials said the initiative is designed to support national efforts in rescue operations and disaster management, while enhancing the readiness of national personnel to respond to emergencies. It also aims to develop volunteers' skills and prepare them for field participation through training in public safety, first aid and operational procedures, alongside involvement in national initiatives requiring coordination between security agencies and civil society institutions.
The training was held at Lekhwiya's camp in Al Duhail under the supervision of the Lekhwiya-linked Qatari International Search and Rescue Group. It included theoretical lectures and practical exercises in first aid, firefighting, and urban search and rescue, as well as training on the standards of the United Nations International Search and Rescue Advisory Group (INSARAG).
The four-week program covered a range of specialized modules. The first week focused on first aid, including CPR, cardiac emergencies, the use of defibrillators, and managing choking incidents across different age groups.
The second week was dedicated to firefighting, introducing types of extinguishers and hoses, as well as practical scenarios involving vehicle and residential fires and the use of oxygen cylinders.
The third week concentrated on urban search and rescue techniques, including stabilization methods, cutting and securing timber structures, door and window reinforcement, rope-based descent systems, and concrete breaching to reach victims.
The final week covered INSARAG methodologies, including disaster response procedures and victim management, as well as training in search operations using specially trained K9 units. (QNA)
