South Korea Says Pyongyang Launched Ballistic Missiles Toward East Sea
Seoul, April 19 (QNA) - The South Korean military announced that North Korea launched several ballistic missiles today toward the East Sea, in the latest series of missile tests witnessed in the region.
According to a statement by South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff, reported by Yonhap, the launches were detected, noting that surveillance measures have been intensified in anticipation of possible additional launches.
The statement confirmed that the South Korean military was staying ready, while continuing to closely share information with the United States and Japan regarding Pyongyang's missile activities.
This development comes after North Korea launched several short-range ballistic missiles on Apr. 8 in two separate launches within a single day. The day before that, it also launched an unidentified projectile that disappeared shortly after launch, in what is believed to have been a failed test.
In a related context, North Korean state media reported that Pyongyang conducted a test of a tactical ballistic missile equipped with a cluster warhead, alongside trials of electromagnetic weapons systems and mock carbon-fiber bombs, as well as verification of the readiness of a mobile short-range surface-to-air missile system.
