Davos, January 20 (QNA) - The Doha Forum convened a select group of leading figures from governmental, financial, and multilateral institutions at the Investment Promotion Agency Qatar Pavilion during the Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum in Davos, to participate in a high-level panel discussion hosted by the Forum in cooperation with Foreign Policy magazine, focusing on the interconnected impacts between geopolitical developments, market dynamics, and global confidence.

On the sidelines of the World Economic Forum 2026 in Davos, the session addressed the impact of escalating geopolitical tensions on the re-shaping of institutional strategies, capital allocation trends, prospects for international economic cooperation, and their implications for levels of trust in global systems.

Against a global backdrop marked by protracted conflicts, strategic competition, mounting climate pressures, and accelerating technological change, participants discussed how geopolitical risk has become a central factor in financial and institutional decision-making.

With political risks topping the list of challenges facing global companies, the session reviewed how governments, financial institutions, and the private sector are developing strategies to enhance resilience, ensure the sustainability of long-term development paths, and support data-driven decision-making despite the growing global uncertainty.

The session was moderated by Editor-in-Chief of Foreign Policy magazine Ravi Agrawal and featured the participation of HE Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Nigeria Yusuf Maitama Tuggar; HE Minister of Economy and Trade of the Republic of Lebanon Dr. Amer Bisat; HE Secretary-General of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) Rebeca Grynspan; and Managing Director and Head of Global Public Sector at Citi Group Stephanie von Friedeburg.

In his welcoming remarks, HE Executive Director of the Doha Forum Mubarak Ajlan Al Kuwari emphasized the importance of dialogue at a time characterized by increasing fragmentation and global ambiguity, stating that geopolitical risks today are no longer a secondary factor; they have become central to decision-making mechanisms for governments, companies, and institutions. As global uncertainty intensifies, open dialogue across sectors becomes an urgent necessity, not only to manage risks, but to entrench and strengthen trust in global systems.

In line with the Doha Forum's commitment to fostering inclusive cross-sector dialogue, the session explored practical approaches to integrating geopolitical analysis into business strategies, navigating sanctions regimes and regulatory divergence, and balancing competitiveness with responsibility, particularly for emerging and developing economies facing successive waves of complex and intensifying global shocks.

The Davos discussions represented a preparatory step toward the Doha Forum 2026, scheduled to be held in December in Qatar, reinforcing the Forum's efforts to address global uncertainty through dialogue and cooperation.

The Doha Forum is a leading global platform that brings together leaders, policymakers, business executives, civil society representatives, and thought leaders, with the aim of exchanging perspectives and working collectively to develop innovative solutions to the world's most pressing global challenges.

The Forum's vision is grounded in the values of integrity, inclusivity, innovation, respect for diversity of viewpoints, and the promotion of a culture of mutual respect and shared progress.

The most recent edition of the Doha Forum was held in December 2025, with the participation of more than 6,500 attendees from over 170 countries, including more than 470 speakers, over the course of the two-day event. (QNA)
