Armed Clashes Halt Libya's Zawiya Oil Refinery
Tripoli, May 08 (QNA) - Libya's Zawiya Oil Refining Company said it fully shut down the Zawiya refinery and evacuated oil tankers after armed clashes near the oil complex west of Tripoli.
The company, citing the Libyan News Agency, said heavy shelling hit operational areas, prompting emergency measures to protect staff and facilities.
Security forces in Zawiya launched a wide operation targeting wanted suspects and armed groups to restore order and reinforce state control, backed by judicial warrants covering raids, arrests, and searches.
The campaign targets organized crime, killings, kidnappings, extortion, drug and arms trafficking, human smuggling, illegal migration, and attacks on property.
The Libyan Red Crescent reported distress calls from residents amid panic caused by shelling in residential areas. No confirmed deaths have been reported. (QNA)
