Havana, February 08 (QNA) - An earthquake measuring 5.5 on the Richter scale struck Cuba on Sunday.

The European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) said in a statement that that the earthquake occurred at a depth of 15 kilometers.

There have been no reports of casualties or material damage due to the earthquake so far.

Cuba is an earthquake-prone country due to its location near the boundary between major tectonic plates, particularly the Caribbean Plate and the North American Plate. These tectonic interactions, along with the presence of major fault systems such as the Oriente Fault, are responsible for the region's seismic activity. (QNA)
