Shafallah Center Celebrates World Teachers' Day
Doha, October 04 (QNA) - The Shafallah Center for Persons with Disabilities, an affiliate of Qatar Foundation for Social Work, celebrated World Teachers' Day, observed annually on October 5. This year’s occasion is being held under the theme Supporting Teachers: 60 Years of Protecting the Profession, Improving Conditions, and Shaping Our Future.
Executive Director of Shafallah Center for Persons with Disabilities Fatima Saeed Al Saadi said that supporting teachers, valuing their mission, and providing a stimulating professional environment are fundamental to enhancing the quality of education and expanding learning and empowerment opportunities for persons with disabilities. She commended their dedication and vital role in developing capabilities, building confidence, and strengthening community participation.
Al Saadi added that this year’s theme conveys a message emphasizing that empowering teachers, valuing their expertise, and listening to their voices are the foundations of an education system that meets learners' needs. She noted that this message is particularly significant in the field of education for persons with disabilities, where teachers serve as partners in discovering capabilities, overcoming learning challenges, and supporting each individual in making progress in line with their potential and aspirations.
She noted that the occasion coincides with the 60th anniversary of the adoption of the 1966 UNESCO/ILO Recommendation concerning the Status of Teachers, providing an opportunity to refocus attention on teachers' status and professional conditions and emphasize the importance of providing the support, training, and working conditions they need to fulfill their roles effectively.
She explained that digital transformation and the requirements of inclusive education highlight the need for continuous development of teachers' capabilities, their participation in educational decision-making, and the use of their firsthand experience to understand learners' needs and improve teaching practices.
Regarding the role of teachers at the Shafallah Center, Al Saadi said that every member has capabilities worthy of discovery and development, and that education fulfills its purpose when it has a positive impact on their quality of life.
She added that special education teachers play a pivotal role in translating educational goals into practical skills that help members communicate, express their needs, make choices, develop independence, and participate confidently in their family and community environments.
Al Saadi linked the teachers' mission to the human development goals of the Qatar National Vision 2030, emphasizing that investing in education and educators' capabilities contributes to building a society that values the potential of all its members and creates opportunities for persons with disabilities to develop their skills and contribute to their communities.
