Saudi Film "Hijra" Claims Grand Prize in International Women's Film Festival
Rabat, October 04 (QNA) - The Saudi film "Hijra" claimed the grand prize in the Feature Films Official Competition category at the 19th International Women's Film Festival (Festival International de Films de Femmes) held in Sale, Morocco.
The film, directed by Shahad Ameen, also won awards for best actress, which went to Khairiah Nathmy and Lamar Faden.
Filmed in eight cities in Saudi Arabia, "Hijra" deals with the stories of migrants who chose to settle in the country after performing the Hajj.
The jury also granted its special award to the Moroccan film "Calle Malaga" directed by Maryam Touzani, while Tunisian/French director Lila Pinell won the First Feature award for her film "Shana".
In the Documentary Film Competition, the award went to the Moroccan film "Out of School" by Hind Bensari.
"Double or Quits" by Moroccan Rachida Saadi claimed an award for best Moroccan film that fights for women's causes.
The closing ceremony also honored Canadian director and writer Anais Barbeau-Lavalette, as well as Moroccan actress Ibtissam Laaroussi. (QNA)
