Doha, January 27 (QNA) - The International Basketball Federation (FIBA) and the organizing committee of FIBA Basketball World Cup Qatar 2027, on Monday, unveiled the official identity and logo of the tournament, which is held for the first time in the Middle East.

Inspired by the Qatari bisht worn by men in their official occasions, the new logo reflects the State of Qatar's deep-rooted history and rich legacy. The logo design portrays wraps around the iconic James Naismith Trophy, fusing the nation's cultural heritage with the global passion for basketball.

It highlights Qatar's vision in organizing an extraordinary championship that leaves this profound impact to promote the basketball's stature in various territories around the globe.

The Bisht's journey is represented through three traditional colors, the white, Brown, and Black, with each color symbolizing a phase of the basketball journey, in terms of the thrill of qualifiers to the intensity of contest across the tournament stages, culminating in the euphoria of victory in the finals.

The brown bisht symbolizes the challenges teams face on their journey to the FIBA World Cup Qatar 2027, with the tournament winding up with the black bisht, representing the festive atmosphere of the finals, the legacy of the event, and the enduring memories etched in the minds of participants and fans worldwide.

In addition, the logo signifies Qatar's embrace and warm reception of basketball players and enthusiasts from all continents. It further embodies Doha's unwavering commitment to organizing a global sporting event that seamlessly blends authenticity with unparalleled athletic excellence.

Global Ambassador of the FIBA World Cup 2027, Carmelo Anthony, was also on hand to help launch today's logo identity, along with the step it up global campaign, a call to action for players, fans, and the host nation to elevate the game to new heights, thereby underscoring the resolve of the State of Qatar and FIBA to organize a global tournament that leaves a profound footprint on the generations to come, in addition to advancing basketball and values globally.

FIBA and members of the organizing committee are working side by side to organize the best ever edition in history.

FIBA Secretary General Andreas Zagklis said the logo expresses the unique identity of FIBA World Cup 2027 and captures the essence of its sport pinnacle men's competition, highlighting that the 2027 edition will inspire even more fans around the world and will reach out in new and innovative ways to engage the next generation.

He added that FIBA looks forward to witnessing the impact of this sporting event and is pretty confident in the tournament's abilities to set new standards and leave an enduring legacy for future generations. (QNA)
