Japan's Nikkei Records Three-Week Low
Tokyo, August 19 (QNA) - Japan's Nikkei index recorded its biggest decline in three weeks at Wednesday's close, following sharp selling in technology company shares on Wall Street overnight.
The Nikkei index fell 3.16 percent to close at 65,326.42 points, its biggest decline since July 27, while the broader Topix index fell 3.09 percent to close at 4,012.31 points.
Furukawa Electric shares suffered the biggest loss, falling 13.69 percent, followed by Kioxia Holdings, which fell 12.60 percent. Pan Pacific International, operator of the Don Quijote chain of stores, plunged 11.08 percent, while SoftBank Group, a major investor in the field of artificial intelligence, fell 6.47 percent.
As for online retail company Mercari, it recorded the biggest gain among the shares listed on the Nikkei index, rising 6.19 percent, followed by Shift, which rose 3.43 percent, and M3, which gained 2.18 percent. (QNA)
