Tokyo, September 16 (QNA) - Japan's Nikkei index rose on Wednesday for the first time in four sessions, supported by energy producers' shares, which benefited from strong oil prices.
The index erased losses incurred in early trading to close 0.69 percent higher at 63,923 points. The broader Topix index gained 0.61 percent to 4,061.72 points.
The oil and coal products sub-index led the gains among sectors on the Topix, rising 4.62 percent. However, the pharmaceutical and information technology sub-indices were among the declining sectors on the Topix, falling 0.90 percent and 0.80 percent, respectively.
Of the 225 stocks listed on the Nikkei, 152 rose, 70 fell, and three were unchanged.
In terms of percentage gains, Eneos Holdings was the biggest gainer, rising 4.99 percent, followed by Screen Holdings, which climbed 4.37 percent, and Idemitsu Kosan, which gained 4.31 percent to reach a record high. (QNA)
